the hornacek family: d.j. and andy to the rescue!

kev's brother d.j. is incredibly talented and is skilled in many things when it comes to home renovations, including flooring. he has done a lot of work so he is well-trained. when we first found out that we were going to get our house, we called d.j. up and said, "hey, want to come out to california and help us with our house?" we weren't really expecting him to go and by a plane ticket so quickly! he was out here two weeks after we got the keys. seriously. so awesome to come out here during such a time of need. i can't even tell you what a blessing this was to our family!

by the time deej got here, most of the painting was done. we were hoping to be ready to start the floors when he arrived, but everything we had to do ahead of time, took twice as long. uncle andy also came out so kevin was able to work on the house with his two brothers...how cool is that?! they painted for a couple days and fixed things here and there (the never ending list). we were able to borrow all of the tools we needed so the boys could get started on the floors and baseboards. d.j. did all of the tile work in the bathrooms and laundry room. the tile looks stunning! way to go, bro! the big job was the laminate flooring throughout the majority of the house...living room, kitchen, dining room, and hallway. it took them over two days just to get it done. very labor intensive. the hours may have been long, but in the end we have beautiful flooring in our home! the last full day deej was here, him and kev did the baseboards. we weren't planning on buying new baseboards, but the old ones had to be ripped up anyway and it only cost us a couple hundred to replace them. i'm so glad we made that decision. they really do complete all of the new flooring so well.

the boys worked so hard all week long. did i mention they were at the house from 7:00 in the morning until midnight everyday? their whole bodies ached when they came home. my job was to keep them well fed. the only bummer was that we didn't have more time to just hang out. the kids were sad that they only come home to eat. we can't wait to have deej and andrea out to enjoy the house and just be together! i really can't thank d.j. and andy enough for what they did. coming here and putting in all those hours, was more than we could have ever asked for. kevin has done a lot of the work on this house by himself and i am so amazed with him. he's my hero! having two extra pairs of hardworking hands during that time was the biggest blessing! kev just loved working on his dream home with his brothers. having deej and andy here to be a part of such a huge time in our lives is something we will cherish forever.
