jesus has risen indeed...alleluia!

what a great day easter sunday was, a tiring day, but a a great day! kyri received her easter basket when she woke up and was super excited! her favorite part was her new minnie mouse coloring book! she was also pretty fond of her m&m's and fruit snacks. kyri and i headed to church at 9:00, kev was already there, because our church was having 2 services for the first time. i was teaching the preschool class during the second service so that i was able to go to first service. at the end during worship, i was rushed back to the nursery because kyri fell and cut her lip. when i got to her, she was still crying and her top lip was looking pretty sad. all she wanted was mommy. she had blood on her pretty easter dress, but i was able to wipe it out. poor little kyri. she now has a pretty fat lip. i brought her out to see daddy when the service was over and got her some snacks. after church, we took some pictures of kyri outside because it was such a gorgeous day! she got to wear her new salt water sandals..too cute. she fell in some bark while running around and got lots of little splinters in her leg. what else could happen to my tiny girl today? her skin got really irritated by them and when we got home we gave her a bath, hoping that would help some of them come out. i was able to get about half out, but being that they are soo tiny, most of them will just come out on their own. kyri had quite a rough morning. it was nap time and time for me to get ready for easter dinner!

kyri was so precious in her beautiful easter dress.

kyri sure does love her uncle andy...she is going to miss him so much!

my cute little girl.

we invited the haskins family and uncle andy over for dinner to celebrate easter with our family. i decided to be super bold and make roasted leg of lamb for the very first time! good idea when having company over? i marinated the lamb the day before with a red wine and herb marinade. i also made mashed potatoes, fresh green beans, and the haskins brought a salad. we had rolls and fresh fruit too. dinner was delicious! everyone loved the lamb (yay!) and i was very proud of my accomplishment. i won't be making it again anytime too soon...too expensive, but perfect for easter sunday. after dinner, we painted easter eggs with washable paints (i wasn't about to let kyri dye eggs with regular egg dye). it was so fun! even the adults got in on the action and the results were very creative (see previous entry). i rented the bee movie for all of us to watch and none of us had seen it. super cute! we all laughed out loud many times. before everyone went home, it was a must to end the night with dessert. i made a lemon pound cake and topped it off with strawberries and fresh whipped cream. another big hit with everyone. i pulled of my first easter sunday dinner and it was a huge success! when everyone left at 9:00, i was exhausted and ached all over. even though it is tiring, i love hosting more than anything! thank you Lord for a wonderful, beautiful day filled with friends, family, and good food. praise to you Jesus for a glorious day to celebrate your resurrection on the cross. jesus has risen indeed...alleluia!

egg hunt

i love ester! yesterday we had an easter egg hunt with our play group. every thursday we get together, usually at a park, and let our little ones play while the moms chat of course. there are about 7 moms who come from week to week and all of our beautiful children are pretty close in age. since the weather has been so nice this month, we decided to have an easter egg hunt at the park. each mom brought a dozen eggs for each child participating and snacks to share. while the kids played on the swings/slides, a few of use pretty much just scattered the eggs on the grass, since most of them are only 2. they had so much fun running around and finding the eggs! kyri would just pick one up, open it and then the candy would fall on the ground. those poor little gummie bears. she was more interested in knowing what was inside the egg than putting the eggs in her bucket. after all of the eggs were found, they all sat at the table and were able to enjoy their yummy treats! kyri had some sixlets and fruit snacks. they all did so well that day, even though the wind was quite cold. the only downside to our super-fun play day, was the fact that i had to change kyri's pants TWICE. that never happens. first, they got really wet from one of the slides. then, she slipped in a mud puddle and was covered in mud from the waste down. she was so sad she was dirty. such a girl! thank you gentry for letting us borrow a pair of ava's shoes and pants. easter egg hunts are so fun and the kids had such a great time! can't wait to do it again next year!

on your mark...get set...go!

car ride

on tuesday morning, kyri and i headed to paradise so my dad could fix a few things on our car. what fun! i wasn't too excited that i had to drive to paradise with gas prices being the way they are right now, but my dad offered to fix our car at no cost to us. such a HUGE blessing! my dad owns a transmission shop, which has definitely come in handy through the years. my brothers, who work for my dad, actually fixed our car that day. thank you sean, dana, and dad! while our car was being fixed, my mom and i went over to her friend cindy's house to spend the day. we have known cindy and her family for many years and it is always nice to spend time with them when we go to paradise. kyri had so much fun at their house because they have 2 kitties and a doggy! she colored and watched the lion king and even without a nap, was a very good girl. i didn't want to drive home too late, so we headed back home at around 4:00. kyri was out in about 2 minutes. she slept the whole way home and i listened to the new emmaus worship album (there and back) and love it! it will actually be released on easter sunday and we are having a cd release concert on saturday, march 29th. everyone should come! if you would like to purchase the album, go here. all original tracts...its amazing!

the original problems with the car are fixed, but now are tire alignment is off and kev is actually at firestone getting that fixed. a bummer, but much easier to take care of than everything my dad did for us. just when you are bombarded with so many bills that are out of the ordinary and you think, "how are we going to make it this month?" God gives us the blessing of a dad who loves us and wants to fix our car problems for us. perfect timing. for those of you who didn't know, we are planning to go to disneyland in may with our tax return $, but with gas going up so much, we are getting worried about the cost. our heart is so set on going and taking kyri to see mickey mouse, how can we turn back now? we are trusting that God will provide a way. its been 5 years since we have been to disneyland and we have been wanting to go back since the day we got home! now that we have a daughter who loves mickey mouse, we know it will be such a different, and more exciting experience. if we do take kyri in may, it will be a dream come true for all of us.

ponytails and coloring

i was blessed with not only a beautiful baby girl, but a beautiful baby girl with lots of beautiful hair! it is getting so long and i love it! whenever i put it in a ponytail, it makes her look like such a big girl. kyri is very into coloring right now. everyday she takes out her nemo coloring book, her crayons and markers, and goes to it. she has a lot of patience when she colors and takes pride in her work. it is so precious! she also likes to "pretend paint" with paint brushes, which i love because that means no mess! i'm so happy to have an artistic child. i hope her desire to express her creativity never fades!

yay for good news!

i called the doctor today and found out...there is NO fracture in her wrist! praise the Lord! thank you to all of you who were praying for our little kyri. she did surprisingly well having that splint on her arm. she slept through the night, as well as her naps. she really didn't complain at all about having it on and showed no sign of pain. such a trooper! mommy and kyri watched lots of movies to keep it low key these past few days. last night we went to micah's birthday party and she had so much fun seeing all of her buddies. kyri really did amaze me how well she got through each day with that annoying splint on her arm. it is now off and she feels free as a bird! she started using her arm right away so i know she feels much better. it is so wonderful to have my baby feeling like her normal self again, laughing and jumping and dancing. i was so anxious all day long, waiting for the news...now that we know the outcome, we are so relieved! we celebrated the good news with cookies and cream ice cream tonight. we also rejoiced when kyri went poo-poo on the potty for the very first time! yay! what a great way to end our day!

sad sad day

our sunday started out very typical...went to church, picked up mexican food for lunch, and uncle andy came over. after we had lunch, kyri was running around and full of energy while playing with andy! in the midst of all of her excitement, she threw a toy car at andy, not to hurt him, but just playing around. i had her come over to me to explain to her that we don't throw toys because people can get hurt. i was holding onto to her harm while talking to her and then she quickly started squirming on the floor, twisting her body and pulling herself away from me (which isn't unusually for our very strong, energetic little kyri!). she was then lying on the floor crying and was saying "arm hurt!" kyri is a very tough little girl and always bounces back very quickly...not this time.

as i was holding her on my lap, she wouldn't stop crying. she wouldn't let me touch her arm. my heart sank and i started to panic inside. did her arm come out of the socket? what did i do to my poor baby? i wanted to crawl into a hole, but i knew i had to take care of my baby. kevin held her on his lap and we turned on peter pan, one of her favorite movies, in hopes it would calm her down a bit. we noticed right away that she wasn't using her right arm. i gave her some raisins and juice and she would not touch them with her right arm. kevin could move her shoulder and elbow without her crying so we knew it wasn't pulled out of the socket. as soon as we would move her wrist in any sort of way, she would start screaming! she didn't have any swelling or bruising, so we had no idea what was going on in her little arm (so thankful it wasn't her left arm, the one that beholds her beloved thumb). i called the nurseline and they told me to watch it for the next couple of hours and if she still wasn't using her arm, to take her to the doctor to see if there was a fracture. we decided to lay her in her bed to see if she would sleep for a before we went to the doctor (mind you, this all escalated at nap time). she fell asleep in 2 seconds. however, whenever she would move her body, she would start crying. she was soo exhausted and just frustrated.

at 5:30 we headed to urgent care, which is never our first choice, but it is sunday and we know how expensive the e.r. is due to our christmas day visit. they checked her in and after looking at her arm, they decided to do an x-ray. she cried a whole lot at the doctor's office...even when they would walk in, she would start crying, it was like she knew what was coming. it was now dinner time and close to bed time, so we used snacks, her blanket, and singing every song kyri knows to distract her from the pain. thank goodness for raisins! (she ate 3 tiny boxes while we were there) the x-ray came back and they said that there is a possible tiny fracture on her radius bone on her wrist. they said it was so super tiny, that they couldn't tell for sure if it was even a fracture so they have sent the x-ray to a radiologist to take a look and we will get a call on tuesday. they put a metal splint, which of course is too big for her little, chubby arm, and wrapped it with an ace bandage. she can't move her wrist now and we have to keep it on until tuesday morning, when we know the next step to take. on the way home in the car, as i was sitting in the backseat with her, she kept saying, "mommy stuck!" how do you explain to a 2 year old why they have this big piece of metal strapped to their arm? i did my best, but i know she feels so much better already! she was laughing and smiling on the way home and i can already see a difference in how she feels.

we came home, gave her some food to put in her belly and some motrin, put her jammies on, brushed her teeth, and kissed her goodnight. she was out as soon as her head hit the pillow. what a long day for our kyri girl! mommy and daddy were scared and worried all day long. i still am. i know it is not my fault that this happened today, but how can i not feel guilty? i hate to see my child in pain. i know that kyri will have many bumps and bruises and for every one of them, i know she will want her mommy. just as kyri longs for the presence of her mommy when she is hurt or scared, so do we long for the presence of God (which nate talked about today, how perfect!). i know God is with us in this moment. i do thank him for a healthy, precious child. this is but one small hill we have to cross and i know there will be many many more. for now, i will continue to love and care for my sweet kyri.

the name game

kyri in a box...being beautiful like always.

mommy: "kyri, what's your name?"
kyri: "names kyri!"

mommy: "kyri, what's mommy's name?"
kyri: "mommy's names sarah!"

mommy: "kyri, what's daddy's name?"
kyri: "daddy's names kevin!"

she is so proud of her accomplishments! she is using her name before everything now that she is proud to call her own..."kyri's juice" or "kyri's blanket" or "kyri's raisins." her words really do melt my heart and she has new ones everyday!
