the hornacek family: day on the coast.

being that it was in the 100's when grandma and grandpa were here...we decided to head to the much-cooler coast! our first stop was muir woods. we took kevin's parents there years back when kyri was little. it is always so amazing every time we go. all of those giant redwood trees are so majestic and beautiful. picnic lunch, the chilly weather and just being outside was perfect. however, this trip to muir woods will be one we never forget...

there were hundreds of people at the park that day. lots of families enjoying the sights. kaden was in and out of the stroller. he wanted to walk and explore. as we were all walking across one of the many bridges, a smaller one made from wood planks and two large logs, i noticed a gap between the bridge and log. kaden with his curiosity, was walking right towards it. patti quickly went to the edge so he wouldn't go over and as soon as i looked over at his little feet...down he went. my mommy instincts kicked right in! his feet fell right through the gap and i quickly ran over to him, falling to my knees, grabbing him right below his armpits. patti was right there and grabbed him by his jacket hood. we literally caught him right in time. i'm not sure if he would have fallen all the way through...but if not, his head would have caught his fall. it was about a four foot drop to a dry creek bed, full of rocks and branches. it was one of the scariest moments of my life. he got a scrape on his back and was pretty shaken up...we all were. seeing your child get hurt is one of the most heart wrenching things you can experience as a mom. thank you to Jesus for protecting him.

after such a traumatic time at muir woods, we were all looking forward to getting to the beach! stinson beach was close by so that's where we were headed. it was a bit chilly for me at the beach, but the kids didn't mind one bit. they couldn't get enough of the sand and the waves. i don't know how they can play in that freezing cold ocean water. brrrrrr! mommy got to lay on the beach, just listening to the sound of the waves. it was so peaceful. we stayed at the beach for a good three hours before getting on the road. we stopped at chipotle for dinner...where else? other than kaden's near death experience, it really was a great day with grandma and grandpa. the beach just soothes the soul.
