family carving night!

carving pumpkins. the hornacek family is quite fond of carving pumpkins! it's definitely a weird holiday tradition, but it's a great way to be messy and creative at the same time. we carved our pumpkins a bit early this year because every time we wait until the day before halloween, our pumpkins start getting yucky. i made a big pot of chili for dinner and baked some sugar cookies. we were set. now it was time to start our night-o-pumpkins!

not only did we do some serious pumpkin carving, we decorated sugar cookies too. kyri and kaden filled their little bellies with lots of sugar! we let kaden decorate his own cookies and that was fun to watch. he devoured the entire thing and made a lovely mess...enjoying every minute. when it was time to get our carve on, kyri was pretty excited to scoop out all the goop! we always let her draw on the face and then this year she did more of the carving herself. her pumpkin is always so cute! knowing that all kaden would do is put the seeds in his mouth, i put him in his highchair to watch. so mommy carved his pumpkin for him. kev and i were a bit adventurous this year and went with a few of our favorite disney characters. i chose one kyri would adore...tinkerbell. for kev, we searched online and finally found a good template for woody. we have a special place in our hearts for toy story. our family of pumpkins turned out mighty fine, if i do say so myself. hmmmmm...what to carve next year?
